{Staircases: Blending Functionality and Aesthetics
Stairs are crucial in construction, serving as both a essential feature and a aesthetic feature. Stairs are available in numerous types, each with its own features and aesthetic possibilities. Whether you’re looking for a efficient solution or a dramatic statement piece, there’s a stairway design to meet any requirement.
{U-Shaped Stairs: A Luxurious Feature
The layout of U-shaped staircases involves two flights of treads with a landing that reverses direction. This design is typically seen in expansive homes or structures with generous vertical dimensions. U-shaped stairs are efficient, despite their grand and elegant appearance. A landing in the middle of the stair can be used for both pausing and decoration. These stairway designs are associated with sophistication and are favoured in high-end homes.
{Curved Stairs: A Classic Feature
A Curved staircase features a flowing, sweeping design that adds a touch of elegance to any space. Unlike Spiral staircases, Curved designs offer a gentler ascent. The construction of Curved stairs requires masterful craftsmanship and is often more high-end than other types. The result is a stunning structural feature that transforms the visual appeal of a space.
{Why Floating Stairway Designs Are a Contemporary Option
Floating stairs are celebrated for their modern, minimalist appearance, with steps that appear to hover. These staircases achieve their hovering look by being anchored to a wall, avoiding bulky elements. Floating stairway designs are a common feature in modern homes, where they enhance the feeling of openness. Without visual clutter, Floating stairway designs let other design elements, such as artwork, stand out. Floating staircases are eye-catching but require expert engineering to ensure they are safe and durable.
{Why Spiral Stairway Designs Are a Distinctive Choice
Spiral stairs are a compact and eye-catching option, defined by a supporting column around which the steps curve in a spiral formation. These stairway designs are perfect for tight spots, like outdoor settings, where traditional designs won’t work. The use of materials like glass allows for a variety of designs in Spiral stairway designs. Spiral staircases are practical but can be challenging to use for those with limited mobility or bulky objects. Despite their drawbacks, Spiral stairway designs are admired for their artistic and unique design.
{Bifurcated Stairs: Elevating Architectural Aesthetics
A Bifurcated stair is characterised by its balanced design, typically seen in public venues. The structure of Bifurcated stairs involves a primary flight that splits into two at a break, often turning in opposite directions. Bifurcated stairs are famous for their impressive and dramatic design, making them ideal for formal rooms. Thousands of homes could have 'unsafe staircases'
Thousands of council homes could have potentially dangerous staircases which need to be replaced.
Newcastle City Council said more than 3,000 homes and 57 block of flats have staircases with horizontal guarding which can pose a risk to children climbing up the panels and either falling or becoming trapped.
The authority said the design, now banned under modern building standards, was a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
